Last December the Democratic mayor declared an auction for the chance to hit the implosion button on the casino. Trump Plaza on the other hand, never found a suitable buyer. The investor also owns Trump Taj Mahal where in 2016 he sold it for $50 million to Hard Rock International. Icahn was never able to formulate a solvent plan to see the property come back to life. In 2016, the property was purchased by Carl Icahn (seen left), a billionaire casino investor. The closure will ceremonially mark the end of Trump’s casino career.
The closure left approximately 1,300 employees out of work. This was the fourth casino to close in Atlantic city in 2014 and has sat vacant since. Trump Plaza closed permanently on 16th September 2014. The casino will be imploded on February 17th. On Friday 22nd, Atlantic city leaders revealed the demolition date for the former Trump Plaza and Casino built by former president, Donald Trump.
